China and CoalA couple of links to illustrate why I called gore a jerk for going around the world saying the US is the leading bad guy in destroying the environment. china is building 560 new coal gen plants in the next 7 years --with very little technology to clean up the pollution coming out of the stacks. You don't have to read too much into detail; but i wanted you to try to understand the energy challenge for the world --and in this case the enormity of the coal story --such as the fact that every one of these coal gen plants burn approx 1 to 2 trainloads of coal everyday. Responses: We're not China. We're a lot more advanced than China, having about twice their GNP and about a fourth their population...they're a relatively poor country trying to play catch-up. I'm not saying they're right to be spewing pollutants into the atmosphere, you understand. On the contrary, if we could and would develop the technology for clean energy, we could share that technology with other countries. China doesn't have the R&D capability the U.S. has. If our industry and technology were put at the service of the world instead of pure profit, we could make the whole planet a lot better place. We can start here to improve things instead of pointing at China and saying we don't have to worry, it's their entire fault.
