Dear Countdown People:

I have been a loyal viewer almost from the beginning of the show.  Countdown has been the only oasis on TV news and I look forward to hearing what insight you might offer each evening on the latest news of the day.

But I'm about to give up on you.  I watch you for political news.  I do not care one whit what any of those "celebrities" are up to nor do I have any interest in sports.  If I did, I'd watch "E" or ESPN.

The Oddball feature, the Worst Person in the World Feature are great (especially when the worst person turns out to be Bill O'Reilly)...no problem with those.  But basically, I want real news and politics, delivered with the wit and bit of a twist Mr. Olbermann is known for.  PLEASE, no more Tom Cruise, no more American Idol, no more Barry Bonds.  And for God's sake, not another word about the Runaway Bride.

Thank you for listening.  At least I hope you're listening.  If Countdown doesn't change soon, I'll just read the newspaper, watch the Daily Show, and hope for the best.

Oh, I don't know if I believe that "producers are making me do this" line any more.  "News" about American Idol and Paris Hilton and so on has become a regular feature...and this week he's not even there,,,I guess he's sick a lot, he's mentioned before that he has celiac disease.  I'm thinking of emailing him (the Countdown website has an "email the program" feature) and complaining.

By the way, I just watched the Colbert report and he featured the automatic flag that waves itself (see my other email).  He also had the author of a new book called "Hostile Takeover" about the sale of our government to the corporate interests.  Ho hum, so what else is new.  I think I'll skip buying the book and save the money to send the Florida Democrats, from whom we just today received another "send money" letter.  If the Republicans win the governorship of Florida in 2006, there's no hope for a fair presidential election in 2008...Florida has too many electoral votes...

Depressed about it all...and it's past midnight...it's now officially 199 days till we retire.

Yes, I noticed Keith gets a little silly at times...but he says the producers make him cover the celebrity news....about half of his show is good. I guess everybody has gone crazy over the celebrities.  Fox spends most of its time covering murders and missing women.

I couldn't agree more about the Countdown show.   I guess if they talk enough about these hot button issues it will take their minds off the real problems...seems to work so far.  Jon Stewart has made some really good points lately...he has had some really good conversations with a few republicans on the show.

Yeah, I miss the Daily Show, haven't seen it in over a year.  I'm thinking we might start recording the Daily Show and the Colbert Report and watch it instead of Countdown.     Countdown has become something of a joke...Olbermann has only two real news stories on per night, the rest is divided up between sports and celebrity news and that isn't what I watch the show for.  It's a real shame because it was a good program when it started but it's really cut back on its political coverage.    And there isn't any other news show on TV for anyone who thinks that I know of.   All the rest is a reading of George's press releases.  So yeah, I think we're going to have to go back to fake news...it's the only real news around.
