I first saw this on the Daily Show that when the Oil Execs were questioned by Senators that they flat out lied and said they did not meet with Cheney but then today saw this again on a show on CNBC. Why aren’t the oil execs sworn in under oath when they testify? EVERYONE should be under oath. Why are our leaders and CEO's allowed to lie like this? We should demand the truth and demand for these people to be under oath at all times when questioned by someone in our government. Are you guys going to defend the republicans or the oil execs lying now? Now that they have been caught or have you not even seen this for yourself??

You know your Daily Show is not exactly a news source.
I've seen dems and republicans and the repubs are much less lying oriented. The dems are so full of it; they can't debate squat -- I notice their first 5 min are spent preaching a prepared speech and never address the issue or offer solutions.
An American ceo having to defend making a profit in the US, -- how stupid. Politicians/ America should be developing new oil & gas areas and alternate energy instead of this sick display of lying by congress and senate to motivate blog sites and win a few votes.
which is a major prob with Iraq, Soc sec, Medicare, debt, energy, ...; dems can't debate squat or offer solutions, they just make a lot of noise so they can win a vote with their lying.
bs. Why should an oil exec or anyone be sworn in? Is this a trial? Wake up! You people promote rights all the times and then act like you would love Castro or Saddam running the US. How much of your life do you remember? How much do people remember from 5 minutes ago?
How about swearing in Dan Rather before going out to 40 million with mis-information and lies? Oh no, the blog lies must be protected if they are liberal and anti-Bush.
a repeat of the real truth:
an American ceo having to defend making a profit in
> The US, -- how stupid. Politicians/ America should
> be holding hearings on developing new oil & gas areas and alternate
> Energy instead of this sick display of lying by

you folks don't have a clue. Exxon and the rest that invest outside the US have their company on the line with foreign dictatorships, wars, takeovers, foreign politics, currency valuations, etc. Exxon is people, the working class. A corp is not the evil Vader of the North, just working people.
Are they perfect? no, but I'll take their word before one of these Kennedy’s or TV show slanted to promote a bigger audience and their own prejudice, or other lying democrat any day.
Being sworn in will not be done in the future when someone is representing a corporation. why should they? -- the democrat makes a 15min speech putting out his (not under oath) spill on things; and then asks a typically stupid question geared to create controversy more than resolve an issue.
This whole thing was a dog and pony show to get votes for the upcoming elections, -- not to improve the dwindling energy supplies available to the US at reasonable prices to the consumer. if you don't agree with that; then you are sadly in the right house to support the US consumer going off of a cliff one of these days with energy -- almost managed it with a little bad weather in the Gulf

Man, have I been missing out. I fall out of the loop for a couple of weeks and miss all kinds of good things. Apparently, we're helping Syria with something...
Seriously, though, I saw the Daily Show footage of Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens, who chaired the committee in which the oil executives "testified", refusing, loudly and rudely, to have them sworn in. The video was drawn from C-SPAN and it was one take, unedited
(and yes, I'm qualified to know the difference). It made everything that followed completely irrelevant. Your loyalty to these guys is simply baffling. It's like a minnow defending a Great White Shark. And to complain that the Democrats lie (while we certainly know that at least SOME of them do)as we are being drowned in an avalanche of Republican bullsh*t about everything from global warming to the so-called War On Terrorism - well, that's just silly.
MHO, back again.

They should be sworn in because they are testifying before a joint Senate Energy and Commerce Committee hearing - get that? A HEARING. They are HEARING people
TESTIFY. So yes, while no one is being prosecuted, the occasion is no less somber or official than a trial. Of course they should be sworn in, as is common custom
for hearings. Anything else is ridiculous and cannot help but give the appearance that they have something to hide. They should WANT to be sworn in to avoid just
that impression. Of course, can't imagine why they wouldn't tell the
truth anyway; it's not like they have a motive to lie - oh, wait - there's that little matter of millions of dollars in profits. You'd make a pretty poor detective, you’re too trusting. You paint these guys like they are poor, honest folks running a local gas station to put food on their families' tables. That's not remotely accurate. In my opinion, it is you, who is asleep – not the progressive, insightful people.
