Walmart & the Supercenter

The Frontline show on Wal-Mart was excellent.
We need to be using a critical eye when looking at these American Companies.

Wal-Mart has an 80% mark-up on some of its products.
80%. thats robbery. They get this type of mark up cause they use China as a manufacturing base.
They have forced many American suppliers overseas so they can continue to supply the worlds largest retailer.
If they don't go overseas they will lose their competitiveness and also lose the Wal-Mart account.

Wal-Mart has come down on the side of China when it comes to free trade lawsuits that create an
unfair advantage against American manufacturers. Why? Money. The God of American market capitalism.

We do not live in a democracy - we live in a theocracy where the GOD is money.
We pray at the market altar.

So all these manufacturing jobs go overseas. all these plants close down here and open there.
So we end up supporting the expanding Chinese economy and the stock portfolios of Wal-Mart and ignoring
the economic health of our own people.

It's not about quality or integrity even about community.
Its about stocks. profits and mark up value.

We are exporting our resources (wood, metals, livestock hide and other raw goods) to other countries
and importing them back in the form of cheap toys,furniture, shoes, and electronics)

we export very little in the way of finished goods to other countries, But we import tons and tons.
This is why we have a massive trade deficit.

Is this smart?

Opening the trade markets with China was meant to extend our ability to sell goods to them. But they can't afford our goods.
But they can work cheaply and sell us our/their goods- made by chinese workers - working at american plants on foreign oil.

This type of get rich now thinking by these corporations will spin our economy into a downward spiral.

shop at Wal-Mart and support the wealth of certain people and the decline of American living standards.

80% mark up but they pay some of the lowest health benefits in the industry.

This is the new America. low wages, low quality, low costs. but high profits for the few.

And unfortunately this trend will not go away cause now every company will be following Wal-Mart's lead.
follow the leader off the cliff.

Now Sears has merged with K-Mart. I bet they will be using China as well.
Hey Iraq will make a great place to manufacture our goods cheaply once they kill everyone who hates us.
liberation through torture, war and free market capitalism. That's the American way.
Just ask the people in the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. They know it first hand.

Cheap prices have become a bad thing in America.
They are usually accompanied by bad products, bad working conditions and a less conscious work ethic.

You have always paid the extra buck for a better product.
Your scirocco was German made right?
The foreign car manufactures are doing better in America than our own auto companies.
They tend to be more progressive and get better gas milage.

We do not look at labels or even think about the workers.
I am not saying tha Wal-Mart is pure Evil but they do represent what is wrong with are economy.
Our corporations are more concerned with shareholder concerns and profit margins than they are with ethics.

We end up paying a higher price for Nike tennis shoes, Mitsubishi cars and Wal-Mart like business tactics.
When people suffer it is etched into the product and then it becomes yours.
You become linked to it's ethics.

They end up hurting local economies and the environment.

If Wal-Mart went back to its roots of local and American made I would support it.

It got big and nasty. It's a flaw of our capitalistic system.

Corporations are the new aristocracy.

Be very careful who you support.

You really should go to work for Wally when you feel better. I have never met someone so loyal to a retail store.
I thought I loved Apple. But you love Wal-Mart and Sams in a way that borders on fanatical.
Do you always only see the shiny side of the coin?
Not when it comes to liberals. I know that for sure.
It worries me when people refuse to see any shades of gray. Only white and black.

Yes, Wal-Mart has many incredible benefits. (low cost, community giving, jobs for youth & elder) It also has some negative sides. Ask the taxpayers that help subsidize their health care. Ask the local retail store that went out of business. This is the GRAY area I see in Wal-Mart.

Love Wal-Mart all you want. I will be the Gray man thinking different and shopping elsewhere. Not because I hate them into non-existence. If they changed their ways i would be the first in line to shop there.
