I plan to do early voting this week here in Texas. I cannot seem to find anywhere online that displays the Governors issues and state issues we vote on. I did find newspaper articles from the Dallas Morning News and Wikipedia information but I would rather have a chart that summarizes the issues at hand. I remember the last election the judges did not seem to be listed as democrats or republicans which makes a big difference to me.
Kinky Friedman is for good issues like biodiesel while all the underdog candidates the independent grandmother, Kinky, and the democrat are all against the Mega Tollroad in Texas that we need badly. Do I have to vote Republican to get an improved road system? This is nuts! The highways to Austin and Houston are horrible including the interstate 35 to Oklahoma City. Texas is a huge state and needs mega-roads with 4 or 5 lanes on each side. This new Trans-Texas Corridor means you not only get a less congested highway to drive on but you can drive 85mph which is close to the 100mph id rather be driving.
The U.S. should have autobahns like they do in Germany but making it a toll road can be very expensive (relatively) to people making minimum wage or just a little above and who have kids, no health insurance, etc. We really have to think in those terms when we make public policy because a lot of people are adversely affected by expenses that seem minor to us. Then again if you want a decent highway to drive on that is less congested it ends up saving you time, gas, and money. There are also alternative highways to drive on that are free in most cases.
I will vote for the Democrat Chris Bell who plans to put an immediate stop to the project and open it up to public debate which is better than stopping it without a debate like the Grandma and Kinkster running for office might do.
Also on the Texas Elections: When I put out my John Kerry sign a few years ago a democrat-hater stole it from my lawn and I have been scared to put out a sign ever since it could happen again and the money would be wasted. There is now a neighbor who has a sign that says to Vote Democrat. This is a “sign” that the times are finally changing and these former republicans are waking up to the fact the Republicans have been in power too long and are all corrupt. The sign has been there a few weeks and no one has touched it I am glad to say.
The fact that the sign in 2004 vs. 2006 in my neighborhood has changed is not surprising. The whole country’s rethinking the idiocy of Iraq and of letting a very few have enormous privileges while the working majority suffers an economic backslide. It’s time for a change to get rid of the egotistical republicans that have been in office way too long and on with some new minds.

Backing away from a confrontation with religious groups, NBC said Thursday it has decided not to show pictures of Madonna mounting a Crucifix when it airs a concert special with the pop star in November.
Now we know that NBC is scared of the religious right. I love my CNBC On The Money but not anymore. I plan to ban CNBC, NBC, and MSNBC. If they censor a cross scene from the Madonna concert because some uninformed church groups think it is bad taste then they are obviously hiding good news content from most of America. I no longer will trust NBC News. It is too bad that this did not air on MTV or on HBO instead.
The sad part of this entire story is that Madonna is on the cross to draw attention to the global problem of AIDS and HIV. The cross is not meant as a publicity stunt or to offend Christians but to make them aware of the problem in the world they are avoiding. It is the media that is getting a publicity stunt off of Madonna by trying to make her look bad.
NBC will still show a performance of “Live to Tell,” but use different camera angles so that Madonna isn’t seen until she gets off the cross.

Coca-Cola and Nestle are going to partner to bring us a new green tea calorie burning drink this fall in some states. I first heard about this watching On The Money with Dylan Ratigan. CNBC’s On The Money likes to take credit when they break the news first
. I will say they are the best news show on TV right now with great reporting following the Daily Show (for real news briefs). I am glad to see Coke finally innovate with something that looks healthy as the trend for alternative healthy beverages gets more mainstream.
The drink proven to burn calories named Enviga will hit the U.S. market in the Northeast in November and will roll out nationally in January 2007. “A delicious sparkling green tea containing green tea extracts, calcium, and caffeine.”
Enviga increases calorie burning. It represents the perfect partnership of science and nature,” said Dr. Rhona Applebaum, chief scientist, The Coca-Cola Company. “Enviga contains the optimum blend of green tea extracts (EGCG), caffeine and naturally active plant micronutrients designed to work with your body to increase calorie burning, thus creating a negative calorie effect. It makes this product stand out as unique. Enviga brings the benefits of green tea to the forefront in a convenient and accessible, great tasting beverage.

While everyone is up in arms over the Mark Foley Scandal you hear nothing about Mary Fallin of Oklahoma City. When Mary Fallin admitted that she kissed and had inappropriate contact with the state employee there was silence on the part of partisans and on the part of the media (including local KFOR, KWTV, KOCO). Where is Linda Cavanaugh when you need her? Mary Fallin denied they had actual intercourse, but admitted to “making out.” while she was married.
The Oklahoma State Trooper lost his job, resigning after the scandal erupted. Republicans were incensed when Bill met Monica and demanded impeachment. Where was their no outrage for Mary Fallin? It was obviously missing since they elected her to a higher position. Perhaps the lack of outrage is centered around some sort of double standard, after all she’s “just a woman and he was a willing participant”, according to one republican source. Mary Fallin and Mark Foley are two peas in a pod if you ask me. This republican hypocrite claims she is a republican (well thats for sure), a Christian, and an American. She is also a Fornicator.
It is too bad Lt. Governor Mary Fallin will probably win the office since she has a democrat running against her that nobody has ever heard of and that doesn’t even have money for commercials. They are going to have a debate this week so hopefully the Democrat will get some air time if the local media will allow.

I seem to recall, from my younger days, that pot made one a tad forgetful. Who am I to argue with science? Researchers in California found that THC, which is marijuana’s most active ingredient, prevents the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from breaking down better than prescription drugs. I hear nicotine is also an Alzheimer’s preventative.
Other marijuana uses involves relieving glaucoma and can help reduce side effects from cancer and AIDS treatments.
New research shows that the active ingredient in marijuana may prevent the progression of the disease by preserving levels of an important neurotransmitter that allows the brain to function. - From CNN.

Yes, you heard right about another religious station in Dallas. This makes 40% of the stations now on the A.M. dial? The other 60% or so go to conservative talk shows like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mike Savage. Dallas ranks as nations fifth radio market. Air America leaving a market as big as Dallas does some damage in my opinion especially at an election time. Was this planned? Is this part of the Republicans power plan right before the elections to silence the honest hardworking liberals?
Al Franken was promoting his new book in Ft. Worth, TX just two days before Air America went off the air to convert into a religious station. Franken told the Star Telegram that there is nothing to worry about and “it happens all the time”.
Air America is on XM Satellite radio for those of you who cannot listen anymore – buy a car receiver with XM Satellite and make sure you tell them you are buying it for that reason!

A better quality life, better roads, better paid teachers, better schools, better airports, better with billions in America without spending billions in a worthless Iraq? I think I would rather have terrorists trying to bomb us over here on our turf since that is what the Republicans are saying is the reason American soldiers are there. Although they wouldn’t be able to since we would have invested more money in better terrorist fighting technology.
I don’t like to think how different our country would be these last six years, it makes me so sad I can hardly stand it. It’s going to take years to undo the mess the Republicans have made, with this war, the government so in debt, the programs you’re talking about slashed to ribbons, the REAL economy (read real people’s economic lives) destroyed. The sad thing is the terrorists don’t need to bomb us; the Republicans have destroyed our country far more effectively than our enemies ever could.

With Halloween just around the corner this is a fun game we found on the Huffington Post. We first heard about it on CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. Here is the Sen. Foley Spoof Video:
