Ban on Homosexuals from being foster parents? Recently the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill banning homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals from being foster parents. The ban was actually a last minute amendment to a larger adoption bill in the Texas Capitol introduced by Republican Representative Robert Talton from Pasadena. The Texas House passed the bill including the amendment with a vote of 81 to 58. The controversial bill also covers areas that have made the entire nation pay attention as the debate has cast a huge spotlight on Austin. One of the more controversial parts of the bill is complete background checks of potential foster parents who are thought to be lying about being gay. The sole purpose of the background check would be to pull up any homosexual activities or behaviors the foster candidate might have been involved with in their entire lifetime. The state will also be allowed to investigate current foster parents and pull children from “homosexual” homes. The last word has not yet been said in this debate as gay and lesbian organizations lobby the Texas Senate. According to Texas law making policies no bill is law unless approved by the house and senate. Senators in the lone star state will vote in the fall on whether or not to approve the ban that will affect over forty thousand gay and lesbian homes and or potential families. If you have an opinion on this subject and are a Texas voter, then do not allow the chance to have your voice heard pass you by. Contact your local representative and or senator to let them know how you feel. Gay and Lesbian activist groups are asking for all the support they can get via emails and letters to elected officials. You can find your local representatives and senators through the Texas legislative web site http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/
