Low Prices at what cost?

People continually ignore the fact that Wal-Mart forces its providers to cut cost or else lose any product placement on the Wally shelves.   This has caused those companies to cut cost that affect their employees. There are other employees besides Wal-Mart.  Wal-Mart has forced some companies to either close down here in the USA due to cost and instead open a factory over in cheaper work force countries.  This has caused American employees to lose jobs do to the massive cost cutting.

Yes, you get cheaper stuff at Wal-Mart but at what cost?
There is no way for an American with his cost of living to compete with a Chinese or Indonesian worker. But when you shop at Wal-Mart or the many other big box stores
you perpetuate this growing business practice because you as a consumer demand your low prices.  These thing cost whether it is in your cash register fee or in taxes for subsides on creating more workers with no health care.

The Wal-Mart style has created huge problems with our country. And instead of fixing the problems other companies have just imitated it and made it all worse.

It is not about prejudice. It’s about AWARENESS and intelligence.  What upsets me most about Wal-Mart is the extent to which they can alter laws, everything from zoning laws to labor laws, almost at will wherever they go.  It's like the old jokes about the 400 lb. gorilla.  They are a force, separate from the laws that human beings have established for the good of all---they act only for the good of Wal-Mart.

And you can applaud their $4.00 prescriptions or their low-priced food all you want, every time Wal-Mart lowers prices, somebody in the third world is being pressured a little more or some worker here is being forced to work longer for less.  Those discounts are NOT coming out of Wal-Mart's pocket.

Wal-Mart is willing to hire the handicapped and treat them well?  You should have no trouble getting them to accommodate your relatively less disabling conditions.  Get you that little part time job; let's see how long you sing their praises after being subjected to the 400 lb. gorilla's tender mercies.

In reply to:

You ignore facts to dream up prejudices opinions.  The handicapped guy that I was speaking of last was working in the produce and meat dept.  To say Wal-Mart and Sam's don't offer equal or superior products to Target and Costco shows you never been in a Wal-Mart or Sam's.  People are crazy to buy large screen TVs from Best Buy, when they can get the same brand from Sam's for less, and then save about 1000 or more on the warranty.  Sam's/Wal-Mart often works out the best deals -so the companies vary -a good deal for the consumer---- just as Target/Costco does.  But more of the bottom line of Wally ends up in OK and ARK then Target/Costco.

No one thought Wal-Mart could survive the food market -too competitive, profit margins too low.  I check across the street at your smaller groceries -Crest is a biggie in OKC -and low and behold Wal-Mart blew away their prices on everything that I buy -- and Albertsons by my house is forever a rip-off.
I am tempted to work for Sam's -- if health was better -- just the 10% employee discount on most everything that you can spend money on would be worth thousands every year.

We have had this same argument several times.  But the fact is a person working in a distant country that is making several times what they made the year before by working at Wal-Mart is better off.

I am silly to argue with prejudice --unions and liberal dems --and not much flexibility.
