Enough Gold in the Medal of Honor?Medal of Honor lacks enough gold, lawmaker says One day after President Bush awarded the Medal of Honor to a Marine who died after throwing his helmet and his body on a grenade in Iraq, a California congressman introduced a bill to require the Pentagon to put more real gold in the medal. "For those very few soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines deemed worthy of our nation's highest military honor, surely we can afford more than a $30 medal," said Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., said Friday. I was amazed by the story of the young man who threw himself on the grenade to save his buddies...a real hero by any standard...so this really pissed me off...not that his family cares, I'm sure, but still, it just goes to show who we really value... Medal Gold Responses: 1. I feel compelled to give one persons opinion: 2. Well, yes, one would think so, but then why is the medal given to the likes of Frank Sinatra a $30,000, 90% gold jobbies while that given to military heroes a piece of junk? Wouldn't Frank and company have been equally honored by a medal that cost $30? Someone somewhere made a decision as to what to give to whom and the decision was not a good one. 3. Frank Sinatra may have contributed a lot to USO work earning the medal. I think his point may have been lost though, -to sacrifice for freedom, country was not for money or medal |
