Politics: The Iraq War

I cant sleep. Everyone keeps asking me about the other options regarding
our possible attack on Iraq. I tend to agree with the members of the United
Nations who want to solve this problem without military action. So far
it is working.
I am also getting a little tired of friends and family saying how the
media is liberal. Wow. That must mean I am so liberal as to be without
a label. The media hardly ever has guests that reflect the extent of my
love for natural resources or the true ingenuity of people. It all seems
to be focused on perverted behaviors and materialism.
What happened to the spirit of human beings? Are we really so shallow
as to only be worried about the growth of our industries?
News shows now have long segments breaking down the world stock exchange.
I don't own any stock. Some would probably say, well you don't get to
have an opinion. Okay, explain it to me then. Because I do not get trading
my money in companies that I know nothing about. A company bio and mission
statement is not going to tell me who the people are. If I can't look
into their eyes how do I know if they are trustworthy. We have taken this
business thing to far. What happened to our communities. Why do we allow
sections of our cities to fall to rubble? Why do we allow our companies
to abandon American workers by escaping to cheaper labor and less restrictive
environmental regulations? First it was Mexico. Now I guess they are getting
difficult, wanting more than $8 dollars an hour and some fair labor laws.
So off we go to Asia. Here we can get them to work for $2.00 an hour.
And hey! They have no environmental laws to speak of. This is such an
enlightened approach. Where is the soul of these men and women. And where
have our souls gone that we allow this type of practices to take place.
Christians look to their savior for guidance. But hey what about the teachings
of Jesus. His anger exploded when he could not tolerate the business practices
taking place in the temple. My guess is that he would have a few good
months of anger management classes to take if he were to spend one day
in modern America.
We have become grossly materialistic, We have lost our sense of the sacred
and we lack reverence for anything except our convenience. Now wait. Not
everyone. But the soul of America is polluted by greed, sloth and our
lack of self responsibility.
If we continue to let corporate values dethrone our humanness than we
deserve what life we inherit.
American Indians tried to live for the seven generations that would follow.
I teach high school kids that think the world will not be here when they
are older. That is truly scary.
I am also getting really tired of this statement: "No one really
wants to go to war."
This is usually said by someone who will never even be given the opportunity
to murder for their country.
Since I will never choose this, I found a statement by a former marine.
Sam Hamill, while serving on Iwo Jima in 1963 came to a conclusion about
war that put him at odds with his duty.
"When it comes to murder -- which is really what killing of the innocents
is -- there is no middle ground," he said. "If you understand
the line between killing and not killing, you really can't have it both
ways."
If we go into Iraq with our military force we will murder human beings.
I guess it is easier for some to turn that little switch in their soul
and find it acceptable that other would will be fumigated like roaches.
I guess it's because they feel they are better or more important than
those unfortunate others. As long as we continue to treat animals and
fellow human beings with this lack of respect and un-Christ like felling
than we are doomed to be savages of our own distorted importance.
The economic sanctions have killed millions in Iraq. Their entire infrastructure
has been destroyed. Education, healthcare and water systems. This is our
responsibility. We are not punishing Saddam. But instead we are destroying
our own spirit.
You cannot allow the suffering of others to escape your own well being.
You can shut your mind off to it. But your soul will be forever tainted.
