Wal-Mart Represents Predatory Capitalism (not just a normal business)

Wal-mart is busy lowering any standard they come across in every area they affect, which is considerable space.  What Wal-Mart pays their employees, bad enough as it is, is only the tip of the iceberg.  Their pressure on the manufacturers they deal with to provide lower and lower priced goods is adversely affecting poor people around the world.  Yes, I know, the big orders from Wal-Mart are producing more jobs in some of those countries, but at what pay?

Wal-Mart is responsible for workers in those countries being made to produce more and more for less and less and some of those laborers are kids.  Their governments, undoubtedly corrupt to start with, are further corrupted by the sheer size of this monster they're dealing with.

And in America, Wal-Mart, despite the front of the store with the handicapped workers, continues to be one of the most regressive employers.  Low wages, low benefits, and big hurdles to get treated as a full-time employee to even get those benefits.  What small improvements they've made, largely because of union pressure, they've done grudgingly, with more show than substance.

As for their prices, that too is way overstated.  Analyses of their food prices indicate that shopping sales at the smaller grocery chains gives you about the same price for your week's groceries.  Aside from food, the rest of what they sell is really cheap crap that falls apart quickly even if it looks okay at first and the low end of name brand products.  I mean, would you buy your electronics there?

Anything Wal-Mart gives people, they take back in about ten other ways.  Somebody's going to pay big-time for those generic drugs and it ain't Wal-Mart.

What Wal-Mart is good at is running roughshod over everything in its way...zoning laws, community identity, small businesses...and workers, chewing them up and spitting them out.  If you're such a believer, go on, get yourself one of those jobs and see what you really think a month or two later.

Wal-Mart isn't just a growing international company and a business.  It's a whole new way of doing business that surpasses not only national policy but international policy.  It's a force, bigger than governments, practically immune to law.  Don't be fooled by their public relations...they are not benevolent.  They represent predatory capitalism at its most unfettered, corporate domination at its most reckless, most dictatorial level of expression.

Your loyalty to all things Arkansas is admirable but Wal-Mart has no more loyalty to Arkansas than they have to the U.S.  Their gifts are nothing compared to the favorable tax climate they enjoy in a state where the people are taxed 6% on income and goods while getting practically nothing in the way of state services.   And Wal-Mart's "generous" donations get them more tax write-offs and more good publicity.  You're very naive if you buy into all that.
